ipad Application.. the future possibilities for magazines..

Wired iPad Application:

Below, is a link to a to video, of WIRED magazine’s answer to digital revolution sweeping the media industry. This application is one of the first of it’s kind, combing all the rich visual features of high-gloss print, from lavish design to glorious photography, while augmenting it with video, animations, additional content and full interactivity. Another cool feature i loved on this app was its ability to aesthetically adapt to both portrait and landscape orientation. Narrated by Jeremy and Wired Creative Director Scott Dadich, it explains why the tablet is such a groundbreaking opportunity for magazines.

the layout will change depending on the angle to ipad is held. This is a unique feature which i have always thought about when using my iphone.

Sports illustrated iPad Application:

Sports illustrated is another magazine that has decided to spread there content across various platforms and devices. The app has one unique feature which i find very interesting, and if i decide to create an app would love to follow a similar idea. The magazine has moved away from Sports Illustrated‘s weekly distribution model with content  (mainly tweets and blog posts) that refreshes every 15 to 30 seconds, including to ability to publish tweets and Facebook posts from readers alongside traditional letters to the editor in its print edition. This concept of having a live magazine, that is constantly updated  works well for me as i do not intent to publish something that is a monthly issue, but rather a space in which readers can access live steaming content from multiple touch points.

Live polling feature

Applications have great opportunities in terms of advertisement. the images about shows how the viewer can choose various features of the camera this examples shows what the photographs will look like with various lenses. the viewer can then access a GPS map that will identify the nearest outlets to purchase the item.

Social networking share features

The above images are good examples of effective layout using either large images against a smaller written content or a home page that displays multiple images and content in a layout that is easy to choose and view all the content in one page.

Vogue iPad Application:

Vogue uk have become to first of the vogue team to step up with an ipad application. There are a few features which i am intereted in. Firstly the motion graphics that travel through the magazine is interesting. I like the idea of having a running theme (in this particular issue it is “star dust” ) that is carried from the cover through to inspiration for editorial concepts as well as the text and titled of shoots, which are created in animated motion graphics (“seeing stars” title).
